HM Inspectorate of Probation’s current programme of youth inspection is due to finish in 2024.  We recognise the planned end of the current programme represents a timely opportunity to review our approach to youth inspection.  We are therefore starting work on the scoping and development of the next youth inspection programme.  As part of this, we are building in sufficient time for consultation and collaboration.  We also plan to hold roadshows and discussion events across the sector throughout May and June.

In addition, we are looking for volunteers from within the Youth Justice sector to be part of a stakeholder working group.  The stakeholder working group will meet virtually every 6-8 weeks (for approximately 1.5 – 2 hours per meeting, although please note the first meeting is scheduled for 3 hours) for the duration of the development, piloting and implementation of the new inspection programme (anticipated to go live in 2024).  The working group will be involved in the initial scoping discussions and contribute to the development of the programme, including the opportunity to review key inspection material and paperwork.

We would welcome expressions of interest from YOT/YJS Heads of Service/ Service Managers/YJS operational managers to join our stakeholder working group and value the opportunity to work directly with managers currently working within the YJ sector.

Group members are expected to commit to regularly attending each working group and participating in full.  They will also be asked to provide feedback on written material outside of meetings and it is anticipated there will be periods where considerable reading and feedback is required.

The first stakeholder working group is planned for the 14 March 2023 11.00 – 14.00 and will take place in 102 Petty France in London.  All applicants must be available to attend this meeting in full and in person.
