Our equality objectives

We have set ourselves three equality objectives.

  • To make sure that those we inspect perform their roles in accordance with the Equality Act 2010, where applicable, as part of our core inspection work
  • To make sure all our staff are treated fairly, and in accordance with the Equality Act 2010, while at work
  • To make our organisation accessible to all

As a listed public authority in the Equality Act 2010, we are required to prepare and publish these objectives at least every four years. They also provide a way for us to fulfil the Public Sector Equality Duty, which we have committed to meeting. The Duty requires public bodies like HMCPSI to consider the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation, and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people from different groups
  • Foster good relations between people from different groups

Developing the objectives

To produce these objectives, we involved all HMCPSI staff in a facilitated session, capturing views from all protected groups.

We use an action plan to track our progress against the objectives. Our Senior Management Team and our Diversity and Inclusion Task and Delivery group review the objectives and action plan regularly to make sure they are still relevant.
