The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) today announced that an interim Chief Inspector will lead HM Inspectorate of Probation from next month.

Current Chief Inspector, Justin Russell, announced that he would be leaving the post earlier this year.

The interim Chief Inspector – Sue McAllister – will take over from Monday 02 October 2023. A permanent successor will be announced by the MoJ in due course.

Mr Russell said: “I am assured that the selection process for a permanent Chief Inspector is in hand and that my successor will be announced in due course. In the meantime, I welcome Sue McAllister as interim Chief Inspector. I would like to reassure probation and youth justice services across England and Wales that the Inspectorate will continue to function as normal during this period.”
