Information HMICFRS can provide to PCCs, the public and other stakeholders

HMICFRS publishes information on the whole breadth of policing activity in our publications section, where you can find reports topics ranging from child protection or how each force balances its books, to year-by-year data on how many times shoplifting offences have been recorded in each area. We monitor force performance in order to encourage and drive local accountability and transparency. HMICFRS also publishes reports of inspections commissioned by PCCs into specific topics.

• PEEL assessments – PEEL (police effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy) is the programme in which HMICFRS draws together evidence from its annual all-force inspections. The evidence is used to assess the effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy of the police. HMICFRS has introduced these assessments so that the public will be able to judge the performance of their force and policing as a whole.

We also publish Value for money dashboards that provide comparative information on what the police are spending their budgets on, staffing levels by grade and function, and outputs and outcomes in a comparable format.
