This is the second statutory inspection of the Royal Navy Police carried out by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services under Section 4 of the Armed Forces Act 2011. This inspection focused on the effectiveness of the policing performance inspections, carried out by the RNP.

This rolling programme will be completed over a period of several years and will report on the progress made by forces since the 2014 crime data integrity inspection. Protecting children is one of the most important tasks the police undertake. Only the police can investigate suspected crimes, arrest perpetrators and monitor sex offenders. Police officers have the power to take a child who is in danger into a place of safety, or to seek an order to restrict an offender’s contact with children. This inspection reviewed the progress made in Cleveland Police since the publication of the previous national child protection inspection in 2017.
