Efficiency, PEEL, Vulnerability  — 

HMIC’s efficiency inspection of the Police Service of Northern Ireland assessed how a force makes the best use of its available resources with the overall question ‘How efficient is the force at keeping people safe and reducing crime?’

Effectiveness, PEEL, Vulnerability  — 

In this inspection of effectiveness (vulnerability) in the PSNI, HMIC examined the overall question ‘How effective is the PSNI at protecting from harm those who are vulnerable, and supporting victims?’ This question considered how the service responds to and supports missing children and victims of domestic abuse, and assessed how well prepared the service is to respond to and safeguard children at risk of sexual exploitation.

Annual reports  — 

The Police Act 1996 requires Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary to report each year on his assessment of the efficiency and effectiveness of policing in England and Wales. The assessment covers the full breadth of policing work inspected by HMIC, and an overview of police forces in England and Wales.

Specialist inspection  — 

Following a commissione from the Minster of Justice of Northern Ireland, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary published ‘Inspection of the Police Service of Northern Ireland Historical Enquiries Team’ in July 2013. In 2014, the Minister of Justice of Northern Ireland commissioned a follow-up inspection to report on the progress that has been made by the Historical Enquiries Team based on the findings and recommendations of the 2013 report.

Crime recording  — 

Commissioned by David Ford, Minister of Justice for Northern Ireland, this report looks at how the PSNI records crime in line with the Home Office Counting Rules.

Value for money  — 

Commissioned by David Ford, Minister of Justice for Northern Ireland, this report looks at how the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has managed the considerable challenges to make savings from 2010 to 2014.

Undercover Policing  — 

In June 2013, the Home Secretary commissioned HMIC to inspect the effectiveness of the arrangements in place in all police forces to carry out, manage and scrutinise undercover operations. Our inspection was to include all regional and national policing units, and the National Crime Agency.

Data, Rape Monitoring Group  — 

On behalf of the Rape Monitoring Group, HMIC has published 43 force reports showing police data on how many rapes were recorded by the police in each force, and the outcomes.
