Domestic abuse, Modern slavery, Super-complaint, Vulnerability  — 

On 18 December 2018, Liberty and Southall Black Sisters made a super-complaint to HMICFRS.

This super-complaint concerns migrant victims in vulnerable circumstances. They usually arise from crimes of domestic abuse or modern slavery and human trafficking.

In 2019, HMICFRS commissioned BritainThinks to conduct qualitative research to explore victim and suspect experiences of changes implemented as a result of the Policing and Crime Act 2017

Between October 2019 and February 2020, HMICFRS and Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service inspected the police and CPS’s responses to pre-charge bail changes and the use of ‘released under investigation’.

In October 2020, the Home Secretary commissioned HMICFRS to inspect how effectively the police manage protests.

Child protection, Joint inspection  — 

Summary Between 2 and 6 December 2019, Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), HMICFRS, Healthcare Inspectorate Wales, HMI Probation and Estyn carried out a joint inspection of the multiagency response to abuse and neglect in Newport. This inspection included an evaluation of how local services responded to child exploitation. This was the pilot inspection for Joint inspection

In this inspection we examined how effectively the road network of England and Wales is policed.

Consultations, Corporate documents  — 

This consultation is now closed. This revised consultation on HMICFRS’s policing inspection programme and framework replaced the original consultation which was launched in March 2020. This new consultation took into account changes due to COVID-19.

Child protection  — 

This inspection reviewed the progress made in Gwent Police since the publication of HMICFRS’s Gwent- National Child Protection Inspection in 2019. It is part of a rolling programme of inspections of all police forces in England and Wales.

PEEL, Spotlight, Thematic inspection  — 

The control room is one of the engine rooms of a police force. If it doesn’t have the right systems and processes in place, the force won’t have an accurate picture of demand. This will affect its ability to respond to calls and investigate crimes effectively.

In this report, our findings highlight the challenges that the police service face in handling calls with smaller budgets and fewer people.
