Policing pledge inspections

Part of: Specific reviews

In July 2008 the Home Secretary published the Green Paper From the neighbourhood to the national: policing our communities together. This paper introduced the Policing Pledge. The Pledge sets out ten standards that police commit to uphold. These standards reflect the police’s desire to serve their communities better.

HMIC was asked to observe and report on Policing Pledge delivery throughout the country. We carried out scoping work for the inspection and published an early findings report and the National Strategic Overview.

Then from April to August 2009 we visited all 43 forces in order to carry out this inspection.

Policing Pledge inspection information, and the reports for each force, can now be found on the National Archives website (external link).

Please note: In July 2017 HMIC took on responsibility for fire & rescue service inspections and was renamed HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS). Inspections carried out before July 2017 may continue to refer to HMIC.
