BTP has responsibility for policing the rail network throughout Great Britain, so HMICFRS has worked collaboratively with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary Scotland to produce a single report that covers its whole jurisdiction.

An inspection of British Transport Police’s ability to minimise disruption on the rail network – 27 April 2020

In April 2018, we were commissioned by the Minister of State for Transport to inspect BTP and assess the force’s ability to work with the rail industry to minimise disruption on the network. It focused on disruption issues related to policing such as trespass, fatalities, vandalism, cable theft and level crossings.

PEEL: Police effectiveness – An inspection of British Transport Police – 6 July 2018

In October 2016, HMICFRS was commissioned by the Under Secretary of State for Transport to inspect the effectiveness of the BTP using the methodology set out in HMICFRS’s autumn 2017 PEEL all-force inspection programme.
