Summary

Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector addressed the Annual Joint APCC and NPCC Conference on Police Reform on Wednesday 16 November 2016.

The title of the speech was ‘Time for the police to establish a true network in the public interest’.

It concerns the need for the police service to co-operate in the creation of:

  1. a joint venture for the efficient and systematic establishment of common standards for information and communications technology;
  2. true interoperability of systems; and
  3. a common economical procedure for the specification and acquisition of ICT.

It proposes a solution which draws on established methods in other safety-critical essential public services. That solution is called ‘a network code’.
