Section 4 of the Armed Forces Act 2011 places a statutory duty on Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) to inspect and report to the Secretary of State (Defence) on the independence and effectiveness of investigations carried out by the Royal Air Force Police (RAFP).

This is the second statutory inspection of the RAFP by HMICFRS.

The first investigated the effectiveness of the RAFP’s overall strategic leadership and governance arrangements. This inspection examined RAFP’s performance management process for RAFP investigations.
