PEEL: Police efficiency, legitimacy and leadership - An inspection of British Transport Police

Published on: 8 December 2017

Summary

In October 2016, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue services (HMICFRS) and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland (HMICS) were commissioned by the Under Secretary of State for Transport to inspect the efficiency, legitimacy and leadership of the British Transport Police using the methodology set out in HMICFRS’ spring 2016 PEEL all-force inspection programme.

The inspection took place in February 2017. This report sets out HMICFRS’ findings in three sections:

  • how efficient the force is in managing its resources;
  • how legitimate the force is in treating its workforce and the public; and
  • how well the force understands, develops and displays leadership.

HMICS’ report is published alongside our report on the Department of Transport website.
