This inspection reviewed the progress made in Hertfordshire Constabulary since the publication of Hertfordshire – National child protection inspection in 2019. It is part of a rolling programme of inspections of all police forces in England and Wales.

During this inspection we:

  • examined constabulary policies, strategies and other documents;
  • interviewed senior leaders, managers and supervisors;
  • held focus groups with frontline staff; and
  • audited 38 child protection incidents/investigations. Of these, we found 19 cases to be good, 17 required improvement and 2 were inadequate.

This report sets out our findings.
