Northamptonshire is home to 0.76 million people across a blend of rural and urban communities. The county has seen an above national average population growth of 13.5% in the ten years up to 2021 compared to the 6.3% England average. Northamptonshire’s population is forecast to increase by 16.6% (123,927) during the period 2018 to 2043.

Policing demand in Northamptonshire continues to increase and evolve; the Force continues to deal with increasingly more complex issues, particularly those with elements of vulnerability and digitally enabled crime. Everyday officers and staff respond to threat, harm and risk related to serious and complex crime including organised criminality, drugs, and gangs.

Every year the Formula 1 British Grand Prix and MotoGP take place at Silverstone Racing Circuit. There are several main routes running through the county which link significant parts of the country together.

During 2023/24, Northamptonshire Police increased its number of officers to 1,510, with 1034 members staff, including 82 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs).

Northamptonshire Police set its Matters of Priority in 2020/21 to deliver its mission of ‘Fighting Crime and Protecting People’. The Chief Constable has set his five-year vision for the force, focusing on how it will prevent crime in the future and helping to create a safe environment to live and work that promotes life chances.

Northamptonshire Police continues to work as part of several collaborations to increase its effectiveness of response to serious and organised crime and vulnerability. The force’s continued collaboration with Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue will drive forward opportunities to maximise efficiencies of interoperability between Fire and Police.

The county has seen an above national average population growth of 10.2% in the ten years up to 2019 compared to the 7.84% England average. Northamptonshire’s population is forecast to increase by 16.6% (123,927) during the period 2018 to 2043.

Policing demand in Northamptonshire continues to increase and evolve; the Force continues to deal with increasingly more complex issues, particularly those with elements of vulnerability and digitally enabled crime. Everyday officers and staff respond to threat, harm and risk related to serious and complex crime including organised criminality, drugs, and gangs.

At the end of the 2020/21 year, Northamptonshire Police increased its number of officers to 1,353, the Force is on track to have 1,461 officers by March 2022.
