His Majesty’s Inspector of Constabulary (HMI): Lee Freeman is HMI for the National Crime Agency (NCA)
The NCA is the UK law enforcement agency responsible for leading, supporting and co-ordinating the response to serious and organised crime. This includes human, weapons and drug trafficking; cybercrime; and economic crime that cross regional, national and international borders. It has more than 4,000 officers, some of whom provide an international liaison function across and beyond Europe.
The agency has two functions specified in statute which are crime reduction and criminal intelligence.
HMICFRS has a statutory duty to carry out inspections of the NCA under the Crime and Courts Act 2013. Following an inspection, we must report to the Home Secretary on the efficiency and effectiveness of the agency.
The Secretary of State can also request that we inspect the NCA in respect of a particular matter.
