England and Wales police forces

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, England and Wales police forces recorded:

    • 37,500 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
    • 6,919 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
    • 4,854 rapes of a female aged under 13;
    • 981 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
    • 2,520 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
    • 941 rapes of a male aged 13–15;
    • 2,184 rapes of a male aged under 13; and
    • 162 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders.

    Over the same period, England and Wales police forces received 13,695 rape reports that were not recorded as a crime. It transferred 1,726 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 398 rape offences.

    In these 12 months, England and Wales police forces recorded a Charged/Summonsed outcome to 1.40 percent of rape offences recorded in the year.

    Over the same period, England and Wales police forces referred 4,181 cases of rape to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 1,867 cases.

    It successfully convicted 1,439 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 663 unsuccessful prosecutions.

    The Ministry of Justice reported that 2,811 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in England and Wales. Of those, 2,071 offenders were found guilty.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Avon and Somerset Constabulary recorded:

      • 1,180 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 59 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 235 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 73 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 68 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 11 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 37 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 45 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Avon and Somerset Constabulary received 318 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 37 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 10 rape offences.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 0.41 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Avon and Somerset Constabulary referred 91 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 48 cases.

It successfully convicted 39 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 14 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 59 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Avon and Somerset. Of those, 43 offenders were found guilty.

Bedfordshire Police

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Bedfordshire Police recorded:

      • 423 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 126 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 85 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 38 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 16 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 2 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 6 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 15 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Bedfordshire Police received 118 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 60 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 14 rape offences.

Bedfordshire Police recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 1.27 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Bedfordshire Police referred 37 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 17 cases.

It successfully convicted 14 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 5 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 23 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Bedfordshire. Of those, 15 offenders were found guilty.

British Transport Police

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, British Transport Police recorded:

      • 29 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 3 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 8 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 1 rape of a female aged under 13;
      • 6 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 0 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 2 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 0 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, British Transport Police  received 272 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 7 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 1 rape offences.

British Transport Police recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 0.0 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, British Transport Police referred 6 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 2 cases.

It successfully convicted 3 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 0 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 0 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in British Transport Police. Of those, 0 offenders were found guilty.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Cambridgeshire Constabulary recorded:

      • 610 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 6 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 93 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 49 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 35 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 0 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 13 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 24 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Cambridgeshire Constabulary received 182 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 73 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 1 rape offences.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 1.33 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Cambridgeshire Constabulary referred 77 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 20 cases.

It successfully convicted 17 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 9 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 36 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Cambridgeshire. Of those, 28 offenders were found guilty.

Cheshire Constabulary

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Cheshire Constabulary recorded:

      • 661 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 26 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 143 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 87 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 49 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 8 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 44 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 77 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Cheshire Constabulary received 218 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 97 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 3 rape offences.

Cheshire Constabulary recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 0.64 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Cheshire Constabulary referred 99 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 53 cases.

It successfully convicted 28 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 15 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 52 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Avon and Somerset. Of those, 40 offenders were found guilty.

City of London Police

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, City of London Police recorded:

      • 15 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 0 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 1 rape of a female aged 13–15;
      • 0 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 0 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 0 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 0 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 1 rape of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, City of London Police received 14 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 14 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 0 rape offences.

City of London Police recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 0.0 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Cleveland Police

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Cleveland Police recorded:

      • 467 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 12 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 100 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 49 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 22 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 1 rape of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 21 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 28 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Cleveland Police received 215 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 43 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 1 rape offences.

Cleveland Police recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 1.14 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Cleveland Police referred 102 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 35 cases.

It successfully convicted 18 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 13 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 52 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Cleveland. Of those, 38 offenders were found guilty.

Cumbria Constabulary

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Cumbria Constabulary recorded:

      • 277 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 6 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 71 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 50 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 16 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 1 rape of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 4 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 26 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Cumbria Constabulary received 256 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 48 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 0 rape offences.

Cumbria Constabulary recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 2.88 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Cumbria Constabulary referred 58 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 24 cases.

It successfully convicted 9 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 5 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 30 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Cumbria. Of those, 26 offenders were found guilty.

Derbyshire Constabulary

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Derbyshire Constabulary recorded:

      • 623 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 0 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 107 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 101 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 31 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 0 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 12 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 47 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Derbyshire Constabulary received 109 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 99 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 10 rape offences.

Derbyshire Constabulary recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 0.87 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Derbyshire Constabulary referred 59 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 34 cases.

It successfully convicted 24 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 18 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 60 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Derbyshire. Of those, 50 offenders were found guilty.

Devon and Cornwall Police

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Devon and Cornwall Police recorded:

      • 1,093 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 12 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 193 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 148 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 69 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 1 rape of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 25 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 77 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Devon and Cornwall Police received 156 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 25 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 19 rape offences.

Devon and Cornwall Police recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 1.55 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Devon and Cornwall Police referred 92 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 36 cases.

It successfully convicted 54 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 12 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 61 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Devon and Cornwall. Of those, 40 offenders were found guilty.

Dorset Police

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Dorset Police recorded:

      • 535 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 10 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 98 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 72 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 37 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 2 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 9 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 18 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Dorset Police received 250 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 26 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 20 rape offences.

Dorset Police recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 2.05 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Dorset Police referred 45 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 22 cases.

It successfully convicted 12 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 6 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 22 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Dorset. Of those, 17 offenders were found guilty.

Durham Constabulary

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Durham Constabulary recorded:

      • 335 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 4 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 78 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 73 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 38 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 4 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 12 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 50 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Durham Constabulary received 202 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 0 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 1 rape offences.

Durham Constabulary recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 4.38 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Durham Constabulary referred 91 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 38 cases.

It successfully convicted 32 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 10 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 57 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Durham. Of those, 42 offenders were found guilty.

Dyfed-Powys Police

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Dyfed-Powys Police recorded:

      • 288 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 0 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 59 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 42 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 16 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 0 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 9 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 19 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Dyfed-Powys Police received 73 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 21 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 2 rape offences.

Dyfed-Powys Police recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 2.31 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Dyfed-Powys Police referred 45 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 20 cases.

It successfully convicted 14 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 9 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 14 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Dyfed-Powys. Of those, 12 offenders were found guilty.

Essex Police

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Essex Police recorded:

      • 1,519 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 43 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 224 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 196 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 86 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 4 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 35 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 75 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Essex Police received 822 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 76 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 20 rape offences.

Essex Police recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 1.51 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Essex Police referred 65 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 40 cases.

It successfully convicted 24 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 11 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 56 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Essex. Of those, 42 offenders were found guilty.

Gloucestershire Constabulary

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Gloucestershire Constabulary recorded:

      • 311 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 2 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 71 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 37 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 24 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 1 rape of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 16 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 13 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Gloucestershire Constabulary received 88 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 11 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 0 rape offences.

Gloucestershire Constabulary recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 2.95 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Gloucestershire Constabulary referred 47 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 27 cases.

It successfully convicted 17 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 2 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 32 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Gloucestershire. Of those, 22 offenders were found guilty.

Greater Manchester Police

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Greater Manchester Police recorded:

      • 578 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 4 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 140 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 83 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 67 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 0 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 18 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 41 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Greater Manchester Police received 0 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 7 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 3 rape offences.

Greater Manchester Police recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 0.54 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Greater Manchester Police referred 391 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 148 cases.

It successfully convicted 109 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 51 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 212 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Greater Manchester. Of those, 157 offenders were found guilty.

Gwent Police

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Gwent Police recorded:

      • 285 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 0 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 68 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 74 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 18 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 0 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 12 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 42 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Gwent Police received 88 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 2 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 5 rape offences.

Gwent Police recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 2.20 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Gwent Police referred 72 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 30 cases.

It successfully convicted 22 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 8 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 23 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Gwent. Of those, 17 offenders were found guilty.

Hampshire Constabulary

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Hampshire Constabulary recorded:

      • 1,515 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 19 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 249 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 156 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 110 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 5 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 59 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 62 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Hampshire Constabulary received 410 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 32 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 13 rape offences.

Hampshire Constabulary recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 0.64 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Hampshire Constabulary referred 97 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 34 cases.

It successfully convicted 25 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 13 unsuccessful prosecutions.

The Ministry of Justice reported that 56 rape suspects were proceeded against for the 12 months to 31 March 2020 for cases recorded in Hampshire. Of those, 39 offenders were found guilty

Hertfordshire Constabulary

In the 12 months to 31 March 2020, Hertfordshire Constabulary recorded:

      • 573 rapes of a female aged 16 or over;
      • 1 rapes of a female aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 96 rapes of a female aged 13–15;
      • 83 rapes of a female aged under 13;
      • 20 rapes of a male aged 16 or over;
      • 0 rapes of a male aged 16 or over by multiple undefined offenders;
      • 14 rapes of a male aged 13–15; and
      • 23 rapes of a male aged under 13.

Over the same period, Hertfordshire Constabulary received 245 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 41 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 5 rape offences.

Kent Police recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 0.70 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Kent Police referred 74 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 36 cases.

Over the same period, Lancashire Constabulary received 146 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 43 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 33 rape offences.

Lancashire Constabulary recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 1.17 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Lancashire Constabulary referred 219 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 80 cases.

Over the same period, Merseyside Police referred 97 rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 39 cases.

It successfully convicted 42 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 15 unsuccessful prosecutions.

Over the same period, Metropolitan Police received 2,755 rape reports that it didn’t record as a crime. It transferred 80 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 17 rape offences.

Metropolitan Police recorded a charged/summonsed outcome for 1.68 percent of the rape offences it recorded that year.

Over the same period, Metropolitan Police referred 526* rape cases to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 194 cases.

It successfully convicted 124 cases where the offender had been charged with a rape offence, although the crime prosecuted in court was sometimes different, and 74 unsuccessful prosecutions.

    In these 12 months, West Mercia Police recorded a Charged/Summonsed outcome to 162.47% percent of rape offences recorded in the year.

    Over the same period, West Mercia Police referred 97 cases of rape to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 45 cases.

    Over the same period, West Yorkshire Police received 895 rape reports that were not recorded as a crime. It transferred 23 rape offences to other police forces and cancelled 1 rape offences.

    In these 12 months, West Yorkshire Police recorded a Charged/Summonsed outcome to 79.34% percent of rape offences recorded in the year.

    Over the same period, West Yorkshire Police referred 129 cases of rape to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision. Of those, the CPS charged 79 cases.
