Summary

This publication presents a range of data, primarily from two sources: the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) 2011-12 and 2012-13 Police Objective Analysis financial estimates, Home Office crime statistics and Annual Data Requirements for 2010/11 and 2011/12 as provided by forces.

The profile for each police force has three parts: the first part includes an introduction, the second a section on overall expenditure, workforce and a detailed expenditure breakdown, the third a section on offences and outcomes. These are compared with averages – either the average of forces within England and Wales or other similar forces.

The profiles provide comparative information on costs, funding, council tax, staffing levels, sickness, staff turnover. They also contain information on how satisfied victims are with the service they receive. Arrests data are included within the 2011 profiles, however the 2012 profiles do not display arrests data as these are not yet published by the Home Office.

The workforce data within the profiles is based on the latest data provided by forces as at September 2012, which includes any revisions to data submitted by forces since the release in July 2012 of the Home Office publication ‘Police Service Strength England and Wales, 31 March 2012’. Therefore in some cases figures within the profiles will not align directly to published National Statistics.

The release of these documents enables equal access of this information to all police and crime commissioner candidates.
