The force says...

Nottinghamshire Police covers the county of Nottinghamshire, an area of 834 square miles. It currently has 1,863 officers and 1,272 staff, including PCSOs, around 170 special constables, 80 volunteers and 127 police cadets.

The force is currently in the top 100 employers in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index, recognising the force’s work to ensure LGBT+ employees can be themselves at work.

Around 1.1 million people live in Nottinghamshire, primarily in the urban areas of Nottingham, Mansfield, Worksop and Newark-on-Trent. Nottingham is a major sporting centre and is home to several global companies and two universities. However, there are high levels of deprivation and poverty within the county which pose challenges for policing and other public services.

The population is ethnically diverse, with 12 percent identifying as coming from black, Asian and other minority ethnic communities. The force works closely with established and emerging communities to tackle hate crime, build reassurance and improve representation within the force.

Demand levels are some of the highest in the country, in the last year receiving nearly 630,000 calls to the force contact centre. Whilst the force saw a reduction in 999 calls from previous years, it experienced a 5 percent increase in 101 non-emergency calls. The force has recorded a 23 percent increase in all crime in 2017. This increase partially reflects the force’s improved crime recording standards.

The force is committed to recruiting an extra 80 officers in 2018. These additional officers will strengthen the force’s neighbourhoods and areas of highest threat and risk. The recently launched operational control strategy focuses on high threat and risk. These areas are often complex, have high impact for victims and are resource intensive. The force is implementing a new structure from April 2018, providing clearer geographical focus whilst retaining oversight in more specialised areas.
