Police Service of Northern Ireland - Historical Enquiries Team
Historical Enquiries Team – July 2013
Upon the request of the chief constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), in 2012, the Minister of Justice for Northern Ireland commissioned HMIC to inspect the role and function of the Historical Enquiries Team (HET).
Re-inspection of the Historical Enquiries Team – 2014/15
In June 2014, at the request of the Northern Ireland Policing Board (NIPB) and the chief constable of the PSNI, the Department of Justice for Northern Ireland commissioned HMIC to undertake a follow-up inspection in relation to the HET.
In December 2014, the NIPB and PSNI expressed broad agreement with the following terms of reference:
“HMIC to consider the response and progress that has been made to the recommendations of HMIC’s 2013 report entitled ‘Inspection of the Police Service of Northern Ireland Historical Enquiries Team’.”
Please note: In July 2017 HMIC took on responsibility for fire & rescue service inspections and was renamed HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS). Inspections carried out before July 2017 may continue to refer to HMIC.
