Royal Navy Police - Inspection of leadership in relation to its investigations

The Armed Forces Act 2011 places a duty on Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) to inspect and report on the independence and effectiveness of investigations carried out by each service police force.

This inspection focused on the strategic leadership and direction of the Royal Navy Police, oversight to ensure investigations are kept free from improper interference, and how well the RNP uses the National Intelligence Model.

The inspection found that the Provost Marshal (Navy) provided effective leadership and strategic direction of the RNP in relation to investigations. Six recommendations have been made and one area for improvement has been identified.
