New HM Inspector announced

The Home Secretary has today announced the appointment of Phil Gormley QPM as one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors of Constabulary and Her Majesty’s Inspectors of Fire & Rescue Services.

Phil Gormley will be primarily responsible for the inspection and other work of HMICFRS in relation to the northern region.

Sir Thomas Winsor, HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary, said:

“I am delighted to welcome Phil Gormley to HMICFRS. He was chosen from a particularly strong field of applicants and we look forward to him bringing his wealth of policing experience to the role of HMI.”

He was selected following a rigorous recruitment process, which included approval by the Prime Minister and the Queen.
