HMICFRS plans to resume inspections, and consults on a revised programme of policing inspections in 2020/21

On 18 March 2020, HMICFRS suspended all inspection work requiring contributions from police forces and fire and rescue services, to enable them to focus on their vital work in response to COVID-19.

While the pandemic is still claiming lives and changing how we all live and work, we are now planning to resume appreciable inspection activity. Our focus is on supporting fire and rescue, policing and the criminal justice system as they continue to respond to COVID-19.

We will continue to monitor Government guidance, local and national infection rates and demand on policing, and revise plans as necessary.

New consultation on our policing inspection programme for 2020/21

HMICFRS has revised its original proposals for inspection in 2020/21 to ensure that everything we do reflects these unprecedented circumstances and promotes improvements in keeping people safe and reducing crime, without imposing unnecessary demand on forces.
