Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service congratulated for good progress
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service has made excellent progress and is performing well, a new report has found.

Effectiveness, efficiency and people 2021/22 – Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service
His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) graded the service:
- ‘good’ at effectively keeping people safe and secure from fire and other risks;
- ‘outstanding’ at efficiently keeping people safe and secure from fire and other risks; and
- ‘good’ at looking after its people.
His Majesty’s Inspector of Fire and Rescue Services Wendy Williams said:
“I congratulate Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service on its first-rate performance in keeping people safe and secure from fires and other risks. Since its last inspection, it has made improvements in many areas.
“We found many positives during our inspection, including examples of innovative and promising practice, such as the service’s partnership with utility companies. This has helped it secure 25,000 carbon monoxide detectors and 2,500 wi-fi carbon monoxide detectors over the next five years.
“We are also impressed with the value-for-money dashboard the service has created, which clearly shows where it has made savings. This allows the service to make the best possible use of resources to achieve the best results for the public.
“But there are still further improvements to be made, such as ensuring that all urgent risk information and safety bulletins have been read and understood by staff.
“We look forward to working with the service as it continues to improve.”
Today HMICFRS will also publish the State of Fire and Rescue 2022, which sets out His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Fire & Rescue Services’ assessment of the sector nationally.
