Stalking

Fixed, obsessive, unwanted, and repeated behaviour directed by one person to another. The behaviour can engender fear and distress in the victim. See offences under sections 2A and 4A of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997. Examples of the types of behaviour that may be displayed in a stalking offences are given in section 2A(3) of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997, and include:

  • following a person;
  • contacting, or attempting to contact, a person by any means; and
  • monitoring the use by a person of the internet, email or any form of electronic communication.
