Public health approach (policing)

addresses the needs of the public or population groups rather than individual people, through interventions at the population level and targeting of resources based on increased understanding of the population; starting from the principle that prevention is better than cure, this approach looks behind an issue to understand what is causing it; public health approaches include the following ideas: proactive preventative activity, working with partner agencies to resolve issues (problem-solving), understanding vulnerability, cohesive communities, improving data sharing, evidence-based practice and whole-system approach
