Police National Computer (PNC)

computer system used extensively by the police and other UK law enforcement organisations to access real-time information of national and local significance; the PNC is linked with the European-wide IT system (Schengen Information System [SIS II]), enabling all participating member states to share real-time information via a series of alerts; police forces use the PNC to carry out checks – for example, on a person’s criminal record or vehicle registration
