OCG Mapping

« Back to Definitions and Interpretations

National assessment of the threat posed by organised crime groups (OCGs). When a police force identifies a group it suspects may be involved in organised crime, it enters information into a national database. This generates a numerical threat score, taking into consideration information such as the individuals’ details, their criminal activity, their range of geographical impact, their network and its characteristics. This places the OCG into one of several ‘bands’ reflecting the range and severity of its crimes, and its level of capability and sophistication. The assessment helps forces make informed decisions about how to prioritise activity against these groups.
