liaison and diversion
Process of screening, assessing or referring for assessment people of all ages in contact with the youth and criminal justice systems. It helps identify people with mental health problems, learning disabilities, cognitive disorders, substance misuse problems and other vulnerabilities as soon as possible in the justice pathway.
Information from assessments is passed to relevant justice agencies to help decision makers to make more informed decisions on diversion, charging, case management, reasonable adjustments and sentencing. When someone is referred to services outside the justice system, information should be passed to those service providers.
Diversion refers to diversions out of and within the justice system.« Back to Definitions and Interpretations
