Honour-based abuse

An incident or crime which may involve:

• violence;
• threats of violence;
• coercion;
• intimidation; or
• abuse (including sexual, emotional, psychological, financial or physical abuse).

These incidents/crimes are mainly used to control the behaviour of people within families or other social groups to protect supposed cultural and religious beliefs, values and social norms in the name of ‘honour’.
