Every Child Matters

A UK Government initiative launched in 2003 that introduced a set of reforms to services for children; it was in part a response to the death of Victoria Climbié who was murdered by her aunt and her partner. Its aim is that every child, whatever their background or circumstances, should:

• have the support needed to be healthy;
• stay safe;
• enjoy and achieve;
• make a positive contribution; and
• achieve economic well-being.

It stresses that all professionals working with children are aware of the contribution that could be made by their own and each other’s service, and to plan and deliver their work with children and young people accordingly.
