Custody detention officer

A member of police staff responsible for helping custody officers with managing the detention, care and welfare of people detained in police custody. Duties include:

• taking fingerprints;
• taking photographs and DNA samples; and
• carrying out regular welfare checks on detainees.

Custody detention officers have designated powers that apply while working in custody, such as searching detainees at the request of the custody officer.
