Summary

The Valuing the Police – Part 3 report presents a range of data on how forces are responding to the financial challenge over the spending review period to 2014/15, what the impacts are for the workforce and the public, and how the force is managing current and future risks.

The report presents findings from HMIC inspections, data provided by forces to HMIC and other data collected by the Home Office from forces. It is a report following on from ‘Policing in Austerity – One Year On’ which was published in July 2012.

The data used within the report comes from: crime and anti-social behaviour statistics published by the Office for National Statistics designated as National Statistics; police workforce and crimes detected statistics published by the Home Office and designated as National Statistics; victim satisfaction surveys conducted by forces as published on HMIC’s Crime and Policing Comparator; and data requested by HMIC and provided by police forces.
