We recommend, that within six months, forces review their methods for allocating online child sexual exploitation investigations, taking account of the seriousness and complexity of each case, and the skills and the experience of the investigating staff.

Through work with partners a framework for a child exploitation problem profile has been put in place and work is ongoing to ensure consistency of approach across the county.

In response to this recommendation the force conducted a review of its Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) structure including the allocation and management of cases. The review was led by the deputy chief constable, and it led to the implementation of a new structure for POLIT and the refinement of the allocation of cases taking into consideration demand and the seriousness and complexity of each case, and the required skills and the experience of the investigating staff for each case.
