Northumbria – National child protection inspection (8939)

We recommend that, within three months, Northumbria Police improves its practice in cases of children who go missing from home. As a minimum, this should include improving officers’ and staff awareness of:

-their responsibilities for protecting children who are reported missing from home and, in particular, those cases where it is a regular occurrence; -the links between children going missing from home and the risk of sexual exploitation; and -the significance of drawing together all available information from police systems, including information about people who pose a risk to children, to better inform risk assessments.
