This report covers our inspection activity for the year 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020.

During this period, we completed our Area Assurance Programme of inspections and published a final composite report, bringing together findings from the 14 individual Area reports and setting out the national picture.

Our annual report also describes the thematic inspections we carried out in this period. These include an inspection of rape prosecutions, carried out at the request of the Attorney General, and two joint inspections with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS)
