The Director General and his inspectors with DCI Asker Husain

Following a series of visits by DCI Asker Husain to Pakistan to offer expert advice on developing the Punjab criminal justice system, the Punjab authorities recently carried out a stocktake meeting to discuss progress made. The stocktake was supported by the DCI, the British High Commission and the Department for International Development.

DCI Asker Husain said:

I was really pleased to see the progress that has been made by the Punjab criminal justice system since my last visit. In particular, they have taken significant steps in setting up a statutory inspection body and amended their general approach to inspections by considering qualitative issues, and not just limiting inspections to quantitative assessments. There is still more that the Punjab authorities can do, for example in terms of providing adequate resources to the inspectorate and developing detailed inspection frameworks and methodologies, but I have every confidence based on the evidence of this stocktake that progress will continue. I am pleased that HMCPSI has been able to contribute to the development of the Punjab criminal justice system in this way.
