Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI) is committed to meeting the Public Sector Equality Duty, which requires public bodies to have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people from different groups
  • Foster good relations between people from different groups

HMCPSI is a listed public authority in the Equality Act 2010 and we are required to publish evidence of any analysis in relation to our equality duty and prepare and publish Equality Objectives at least every 4 years. In producing our objectives for 2015-17 we undertook a facilitated session which comprised of all HMCPSI staff (thus capturing all protected groups); we have published of our stated objectives on our web site to ensure public access and in accordance with our specific duties under the Equality Act 2010. We have produced an internal action plan to track progress which will be reviewed and updated on a quarterly basis by the Equality and Diversity Co-ordinating Group. The action plan will be a ‘living’ document with continual review of objectives to ensure they are still relevant, updated where necessary and new objectives will be added where identified.

The current objectives are:

  1. Core Business Delivery – that as part of our core inspection work we ensure that those we inspect perform their role in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 where applicable.
  2. Internal Fairness at Work – ensuring that all our staff are treated fairly at work and in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
  3. Externally – making our organisation accessible to all.
