Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI) produces an annual business plan, which sets out our priorities and includes our upcoming inspection programme.

Our inspection programme is developed in consultation with stakeholders including the Attorney General and Solicitor General, senior members of the judiciary, academics, members of Parliament, representatives of specialist groups, such as victim support groups, and the organisations we inspect.

Each year we produce an annual report to the Attorney General on the performance of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and the other organisations we inspect.

HMCPSI’s budget is included in the budget for the Government Legal Department (GLD) and more¬†information about what we spend and how we spend it can be found in the GLD Annual Report and Accounts.

HMCPSI is committed to meeting the Public Sector Equality Duty, which requires public bodies to have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people from different groups
  • Foster good relations between people from different groups

We have developed a set of Equality Objectives to achieve these equality goals, which are regularly reviewed by the Inspectorate Management Board and Equality and Diversity Co-ordinating Group.
