Serious crime prevention order (SCPO)

An order that protects the public by preventing, restricting or disrupting a person’s involvement in serious crime. For example, these orders can impose various conditions on a person, including:

• restricting who they can associate with;
• restricting their travel; and
• requiring them to report their financial affairs to the police.

In most instances, serious crime prevention orders are secured against offenders who have been convicted and sentenced. The order usually applies when the offender leaves prison.
