PEEL: Police effectiveness - Police Service of Northern Ireland

Published on: 4 August 2016

Summary

As part of the amended Police (Northern Ireland) Act 1998, HMIC is required to inspect the Police Service of Northern Ireland at least once in every year on their efficiency and effectiveness. The outcomes of the inspections are reported to the Department of Justive, Northern Ireland.

In this inspection of effectiveness (vulnerability) in the PSNI, HMIC examined the overall question ‘How effective is the PSNI at protecting from harm those who are vulnerable, and supporting victims?’ This question considered how the service responds to and supports missing children and victims of domestic abuse, and assessed how well prepared the service is to respond to and safeguard children at risk of sexual exploitation.
