Summary

Commissioned by David Ford, Minister of Justice for Northern Ireland, this report looks at how the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has managed the considerable challenges to make savings from 2010 to 2014. In order to consider this, we asked three questions:

  • To what extent is the PSNI taking the necessary steps to ensure a secure financial position for the short and long term?
  • To what extent has the PSNI an affordable way of providing policing?
  • To what extent is the PSNI efficient?
