Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI) has today published its Annual Report 2018-19, setting out the work of the Inspectorate in 2018-19.

During that period we completed our Area Assurance Programme (AAP) and produced a composite report pulling together the evidence and findings from these inspections. This means that we have been able to give a detailed snapshot of CPS performance over a relatively short period of time.

We have also inspected two of the CPS central casework divisions. These divisions deal with some of the most complex casework that the CPS handles.  We inspected the governance of the International Justice and Organised Crime Division (IJOCD) and the Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division (SCCTD).

During the year we started two inspections in the SFO. One at the invitation of the Director to look at staff engagement and leadership and the other to assess the effectiveness of case progression. Both reports are due to be published in the next few months.
